August 6, 2026 — The Independent Production Fund (IPF) is pleased to announce the launch of the IPF Pre-Application Training Program for Atlantic producers, a new initiative designed to support emerging and mid-career producers based in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. Developed as a companion to previous year’s successful Pre-Application Training Programs for Northern and Prairie Producers, this edition will provide Atlantic creators with essential training and mentorship to help them build competitive series development funding applications.

An important objective of the program will be to improve funding outcomes of Atlantic-based producers, including francophone producers, with IPF programs.

Facilitated by Program Manager Brendon Sawatzky, a recognized leader in professional development for screen creators, the program aims to improve the overall quality and success rate of funding applications from Atlantic-based producers applying for IPF Short Form Series funding.

The program will:

  • Provide Atlantic producers with a comprehensive understanding of the materials required for a strong funding application;
  • Connect participants with seasoned story editors and development executives;
  • Help participants improve their understanding of the legal, budgetary and scheduling materials required for a competitive application.

“We have no shortage of talent in New Brunswick. What we need is greater access to experienced professionals who can help emerging producers and creators strengthen their pitch packages, navigate funding applications, and position their projects for success on the national stage. This initiative is about building that bridge, and Media NB is proud to be a part of it.” said Vanessa King, Founder and Executive Producer, Cart Before Horse Media; Officer, Media NB

“Prince Edward Island’s film and television industry is at a pivotal stage in its growth, and initiatives like the Independent Production Fund Pre-Application Training Program will help ensure that PEI’s creative professionals have the skills and tools they need to advance their careers, strengthen their projects, and support the continued growth of the sector. Our government is proud to be a funding partner and committed to seizing the opportunities this sector offers to Island professionals and economy alike.” said Jenn Redmond, Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Artificial Intelligence
