About IPF

Established with a $21M endowment in 1990, the Independent Production Fund (IPF) supports Canadian creators, writers, and producers by providing development and production financing for fiction series and other dramatic works.

Since its inception, the IPF has distributed over $100M to more than 1000 projects, including the production of more than 750 series and the development of more than 200 series.

The people and projects supported by the IPF are diverse, regionally grounded, and creatively distinct, reflecting the full complexity of the pan-Canadian experience.

Autonomy, financial stability, and a proud history of innovation are core to the IPFs mission:

“To be a catalyst in advancing the careers of new talent and creative teams by supporting the development and production of original and distinctive scripted series.”

The IPF is incorporated federally as a charity. Its Board of Directors makes all funding decisions.

The IPF is certified by the CRTC as outlined in Broadcasting Regulatory Policy 2016-343 as eligible to receive contributions from regulated Broadcast Distribution Undertakings.

The IPF is also eligible to receive contributions from online streaming services as determined in Broadcasting Decision 2025-20 and, per Broadcasting Regulatory Policy 2024-121, is required to allocate at least 10% of the total budget of contributions it receives from all regulated broadcasting undertakings to a permanent envelope dedicated to OLMC producers (in either official language) and producers from diverse communities.

The operations of the Fund are administered by offices in Toronto and Montreal.
