June 18, 2015 – The IPF Board of Directors approved funding for 14 scripted drama series (9 English / 5 French) designed and produced for exploitation on the web. All fourteen are new series to be produced in 2015. The IPF is making equity investments of nearly $2M in these projects. This is the sixth year that the IPF has undertaken this unique funding program which is designed to encourage Canada’s competitive skills in the digital story‑telling world and the marketing and exploitation of Canadian digital productions to global audiences.
One hundred and ninety‑five (195) applications were submitted to the IPF from across Canada in the first stage of the application process. Twenty‑seven (27) of these were short‑listed by a 40‑member pre‑selection committee. In the final evaluation stage, an international jury as well as industry evaluators and the IPF Board members reviewed all of the finalists and rated them based on content, production styles and processes, formats, business and promotion models, audience engagement and revenue potential.
The 2015 international jury included Jean‑Michel Albert (Producteur indépendant et consultant dans le secteur des nouveaux médias – FR), Erik Marie Bion (General Manager, Microsoft Advertising – FR), Pierre‑Mathieu Fortin (Directeur du développement contenu original chez JimmyLee – CAN), Alexandre Gravel (Producteur chez Toast Studio – CAN), Jean‑François Grenier (Concepteur multiplateforme – CAN), Kadidja Haïdara (Scénariste – CAN), Virginie Jaffredo (Finissante du programme de Production et réalisation en médias interactifs à L’INIS – CAN), Gabrielle Madé (Chef, Analyse et développement numérique chez Attraction Images – CAN), Carter Mason (CEO, JTS.TV – USA), Gabriel Molina (Finissant du programme de Production et réalisation en médias interactifs à L’INIS – CAN), Mauricio Mota (Co‑founder, The Alchemist Productions – BRA), Alison Norrington (Transmedia producer/founder, StoryWorld – UK), Paul Ronca (Just For Laughs – CAN), Michael Seater (Actor, Writer, Producer – CAN), Enrique Soissa (Country Manager, Dailymotion – CAN).
The selected projects represent a range of genres including comedy, action, thriller, sci‑fi, horror and mystery for different target demographics and distribution platforms and represent both established television production companies as well as new digital production companies from across Canada.
The international jury and the Board of the IPF noted the outstanding diversity of the projects submitted this year, and focused on projects that were developed to attract broad global audiences. “The IPF is happy to share risks with producers as we continue to explore digital drama content that will build our industry in Canada and succeed with audiences internationally,” stated Charles Ohayon, Chair of the IPF.
