The Independent Production Fund (IPF) announces 2025 short form series production program funding decisions

November 27, 2025 – The IPF Board of Directors has approved production financing for 9 scripted short form series, 5 in English and 4 in French. The IPF is providing $2.2M in equity investments to support these projects.

In March, the IPF received 225 eligible applications, the highest number to date. A 42-member evaluation committee selected 21 projects to receive development financing. Of those, 18 completed their development phase and were eligible to apply to the Short Form Series Production Program on October 6th.

Production funding applications were analyzed and rated by a select jury of evaluators as well as the IPF Board of Directors, offering a wide range of perspectives. Evaluators assessed the creative materials, producer and writer team leads, production schedule, budget and financing, audience engagement strategy, recoupment potential, and business and distribution partners.

This year’s slate brings together an exciting mix of comedy, drama, thrillers, and mysteries, reflecting the creativity of emerging storytellers and the craftsmanship of experienced production teams.

IPF Chair Emilia King commented: “Each year we think we’ve seen the ceiling, and each year the creators prove us wrong. This year’s projects demonstrate a level of ambition, craft, and emotional depth that refuses to be ignored. These stories challenge conventions, widen our understanding of the world, and remind us why bold, independent voices matter. Thank you to every creator who pushed through the hard parts to get here. And thank you to our jury, the IPF team, and the board for their unwavering dedication. We’re excited to watch these projects take their next big steps.”

The IPF Short Form Series Development and Production Programs exist to stimulate Canadian creative and business expertise in the digital storytelling landscape and to encourage and support new voices in the industry. Successfully marketing and distributing original digital series and the talents behind them to Canadian and international audiences remains a key measure of success for the program.
