The Independent Production Fund intends to work closely with the selected RFP’s in the development of their proposals.
Notice re: the future of the Canwest Alberta Fund
The Canwest Alberta Fund (CAF) was established by Canwest Media as a result of the CRTC’s Decision 2007-168, to support the Alberta independent production community. Three million dollars has been invested in the past two years in the development of 15 projects and the production of 20 television dramas, documentaries and lifestyle programs. With the closure of Canwest’s CHCA Red Deer’s E! station, there will be no additional funding allocated to the CanWest Alberta Fund.
All projects that have been approved for funding by the CAF Selection Committee, will continue to receive the funding that has been committed to their production. Fund Manager, Jane Bisbee, will continue to administer contracts and funding payments. Distribution and recoupment from the equity investments made by the CAF will be administered by the Independent Production Fund.
This CAF Legacy Program will ensure that the Fund will live on for several years with the returns on investments from the international sales of successful Alberta productions. These revenues will be allocated for pre-development of projects which do not yet have a broadcaster commitment.
